I wanted to share a recent project update from a Carmel Valley residential landscape, where we designed and built a unique stone staircase inspired by the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

The property sits on solid "chalk rock/carmel stone" just inches below the topsoil, requiring a jackhammer for standard planting. When the client requested a pathway connecting to the street, the steep grade required an innovative approach. Our team of skilled stone masons on the Monterey Peninsula meticulously chipped and carved the stairs directly into the existing bedrock.

As we moved uphill, the bedrock became too soft to carve, presenting a unique design challenge. Our solution was to seamlessly blend quarried Carmel stone with the natural bedrock to complete the upper stairs.

The final result is a truly one-of-a-kind landscape design and build.
